Kolkata Knight Riders all-rounder Andre Russell had a forgetful IPL season in 2020. He scored just 117 runs in 10 matches. In the process, he battled several injuries and was even benched as well. Playing in the Lanka Premier League for Colombo Kings, Andre Russell has hit 19 fours and nine sixes for the side scoring 158 runs from seven games at a strike rate of 195.06. he even has a highest of 65 not out to his name.
Meanwhile, talking to a Jamaica-based TV network SportsMax, Russell opened up on his failure in the previous IPL season. He said that he made several changes to his batting technique but nothing worked to his favour.
“I changed my stance, I changed my technique, I changed my trigger movement, all these things I changed just to score runs in IPL, and nothing was going my way. The pressure was real. I’m a tough player, and I didn’t know I could actually feel what happened during this year’s IPL. And I just wanted everything to go quickly behind me,” said Russell.

He also spoke on the life inside the bubble in the IPL. Russell landed with his Kolkata Knight Riders teammate Sunil Narine from the CPL into the IPL. Therefore it was moving from bubble to another for the hard-hitting all-rounder.
“Coming from a bubble in Trinidad [for CPL], come straight into Abu Dhabi [in IPL], days on days, you can only go to practise, and come back to the hotel and your room. You can close your eyes and go to the bathroom, but there is nowhere else to go,” Russell said.
He further said that this IPL season felt like a prison to him. It felt like staying in a trap for close to three months. Also, the pressure of not being able to perform for the side added onto it as well. Andre Russell’s team Colombo Kings are currently at the top of the table on 12 points with six wins from eight games.
