Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) all-rounder Andre Russell had a sensational outing in IPL 2019 taking the bowlers into cleaners. He had light up the tournament with his six-hitting capabilities and giving nightmares to the opposition bowlers.

Meanwhile, since its commencement in 2008, the cash-rich league has produced many mouth-watering clashes for the fans. Be it outstanding hitting, an excellent spell of bowling or a 100 percent commitment during fielding, the tournament has lived up all the expectations.

IPL has also been a breeding ground for many young cricketers – both domestic and overseas. From Jasprit Bumrah to Suresh Raina, to Andre Russell from West Indies, many cricketers have done exceedingly well in the T20 blitz. Russell was in a scintillating form last year single-handedly winning matches for the Knight Riders.

Recently, the Jamaican revealed how he led Kolkata to overcome a stern Royal Challengers in IPL 2019. Bangalore had smashed 205 batting first and when Andre Russell came out to bat, KKR needed 67 runs in 26 balls; and the rest is history. Speaking further, Russell revealed it was RCB skipper Virat Kohli’s reaction that triggered him to free his arms.

“He hit the ball, and he got caught (by Yuzvendra Chahal at midwicket). (RCB captain) Virat Kohli turned towards the stands where all the wives and KKR supporters were sitting, and he shouted something like ‘Come on!’” Russell said.

“When Shubman Gill walked out (at No.7), I said ‘hey listen, I’m gonna take down anybody that bowls. Anyone that comes on, I’m going to take them down tonight, so just try and give me as much strike as possible. He said– ‘anything you say big man’,” revealed Russell.

In conclusion, Andre Russell admitted he tried to stay as calm as possible and was concentrating only on his batting.  He smashed 48 off just 13 deliveries– including 1 four and six towering sixes to take his side home.
