Andries Gous scored the first century of the inaugural Nepal Premier League 2024, leading Pokhara Avengers to a 10-wicket victory over Lumbini Lions in Match 11 at Tribhuvan University International Cricket Ground, Kirtipur.
Chasing 171 set by Lumbini, Pokhara’s openers Andries Gous and Dinesh Kharel put together an unbeaten partnership, securing a 10-wicket victory in just 16.5 overs. Gous smashed an unbeaten 104 off 54 balls, becoming the first centurion of the NPL, with 12 fours and 5 sixes.
Kharel contributed with a solid 61 off 39 balls, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes. This marked the first instance in NPL history of two players scoring half-centuries in the same innings without losing a wicket.
Earlier, Lumbini Lions posted 170/5 after opting to bat first, with captain Rohit Paudel leading the way with 95 off 59 balls, including 10 fours and 4 sixes. His 110-run partnership with Tom Moores (45 off 38 balls) was the highlight.
However, Lumbini’s bowlers couldn’t break Pokhara’s opening stand. With this win, Pokhara secured their first victory, leaving Lumbini winless after two matches.
In tomorrow’s double-header, the Lumbini Lions will take on the Sudurpaschim Royals, followed by the Karnali Yaks facing the Biratnagar Kings in the day’s second match.
