Anil Kumble shares his view on the “much debated” number four position

Perhaps, one of the most debated battles in Indian cricket would be the number four position in the limited-overs. A lot of experimentation was done for this slot for a year.  Vijay Shankar, Ambati Rayudu, Dinesh Karthik and Kedar Jadhav remained as contenders for this spot.

However, things attained a new shape when India toured West Indies earlier this year. Shreyas Iyer was tested in the spot and it proved better results in the series.

Former Indian Test skipper Anil Kumble now feels that India should continue with Shreyas Iyer at this position. Speaking on the same, Kumble said to Star Sports that “ With Shikhar (Dhawan) not being there it again gives KL Rahul a chance to open the batting. We have seen Shreyas Iyer”s quality and he has grown in stature, so I would like him to be at number four.”

Confusions still exist in this position as there re a lot of possible choices available in this series. No official announcements have been out yet from the team management on possible experimentations.

ODI series

The three-match ODI series against West Indies is all set to commence this Sunday at Chennai. Mayank Agarwal is the latest addition to the Indian colors and all eyes on him and his debut.

India will be looking to tick its boxes in this mini home season and finetune its playing XI. Will the visitors trouble the hosts? We will have to wait until this Sunday.
