‘Apologize And Remove The Video’: Wasim Akram Criticizes PCB For Excluding Imran Khan From Legends Video

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) celebrated the nation’s 76th Independence Day on Monday by releasing a poignant video tribute that honors cricket legends and their significant contributions to the country’s cricketing legacy.

The video released by PCB to commemorate Pakistan’s 76th Independence Day and honor cricketing legends triggered anger on social media.

The video, which lasts for two minutes and twenty-one seconds, takes viewers on a journey through Pakistan’s cricket history, starting from their debut on the international stage in 1952.

It highlights the triumphant moment of winning the World Cup in 1992 and concludes with the recent achievement of the Babar Azam-led team making it to the finals of the 2022 T20 World Cup in Australia.

Wasim Akram defended Imran Khan when PCB left him out of a legends video

Yet, the tribute video caused anger as it surprisingly excluded Imran Khan, the influential leader who led Pakistan to victory in the 1992 World Cup with his magnetic leadership.

The absence of Imran, who later became Pakistan’s prime minister after his cricketing career, is seen by many as politically motivated. Even former Pakistani bowler Wasim Akram shared his frustration about Imran’s omission.

During the early years of his international career, Akram was significantly influenced by Imran’s leadership as his captain.

Akram’s autobiography also recounts various stories that showcase how, long after Imran Khan had retired, the former captain continued to be Akram’s steadfast source of guidance for cricket-related matters.

“After long flights and hours of transit before reaching Sri Lanka, I got the shock of my life when I watched PCB’s short clip on the history of Pakistan cricket minus the great Imran Khan… political differences apart.”

”Imran Khan is an icon of world cricket and developed Pakistan into a strong unit in his time and gave us a pathway… PCB should delete the video and apologise,”Akram expressed his thoughts firmly in a post on social media platform X (previously known as Twitter).

The video remains available on PCB’s official X page, along with a caption., “Making history isn’t just about one day; it’s about the legends we create and the tales we script. Pakistan Cricket Team – a legacy that echoes through time.”

The ex-cricketer turned politician was apprehended again this month, marking the second instance in a mere four-month span.

An Islamabad court ruled against the former Pakistani Prime Minister, handing down a three-year jail term and banning him from political engagement due to his participation in “corrupt activities.”

The 70-year-old was taken into custody by law enforcement officers at his home after the court issued a verdict related to the Toshakhana case. This case involved accusations of his involvement in the sale of state gifts worth hundreds of millions of rupees.
