Aravinda de Silva, Virender Sehwag And Diana Edulji Inducted In ICC Hall Of Fame

Former cricketers Aravinda de Silva, Virender Sehwag and Diana Edulji will be the three new inductees into the ICC Hall of Fame as the Class of 2023. The International Cricket Council (ICC) announced the names on Monday, November 13. The three legendary cricketers will be honoured at the Wankhede Stadium during the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup semi-final. Virender Sehwag, Diana Edulji, and Aravinda de Silva extend the inductees’ strength to 112.

Virender Sehwag was part of the 2011 ICC ODI World Cup-winning Indian team. He has scored over 17,000 runs in international cricket, including 38 centuries. He has led India in all three formats. Aravinda De Silva has also played a huge role for Sri Lanka. He was part of their ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup winning campaign in 1996. De Silva has scored over 15000 International runs. Another inductee in the ICC Hall of Fame is former Indian skipper Diana Edulji. She is the first Indian female inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. She played a pioneering role in establishing women’s cricket in India. Edulji has taken over 100 International wickets for Team India.

I feel extremely grateful: Virender Sehwag

Former India cricketer Virender Sehwag is delighted to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. He thanked the ICC and the jury and expressed that he is extremely grateful to have played the sport that he loves. He also thanked his family, friends and the fans. In a statement released by the ICC, Sehwag said,

“I would like to thank the ICC and the jury for inducting me with this honour. I feel extremely grateful for having spent a great part of my life doing what I loved most, ‘hitting the cricket ball’. Would also like to thank my family, friends, people I played with, and countless people who prayed for me selflessly.”

Former India cricketer Diana Edulji said, “At the outset, I would like to thank the ICC and the Jury for having selected me to be inducted in the ICC Hall Of Fame 2023. It indeed is a great honour to be the First Indian Women Cricketer to be inducted and join a galaxy of cricketers, male and female from across the world. I am delighted to be considered for this award.”

“It’s not only a proud moment for me, my family and friends but also for BCCI and Indian Women’s Cricket,” she added.
