India’s T20 World Cup preparation has begun with a high as they won their first warm-up game against Western Australia on Monday, October 10. Suryakumar Yadav and Arshdeep Singh were the picks of the players yesterday.

Suryakumar continued his purple patch by scoring yet another half-century. Arshdeep had an excellent outing with the ball, returning with figures of 3/6 in the 3 overs he bowled, including a maiden over. Senior bowlers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal also had a good spell with the ball picking 2 wickets each.

Riding on a superb all-round performance, the Men in Blue clinched a 13-run win against Western Australia. Indian bowlers yesterday rose to the occasion and helped India secure a win. The team will hope to answer all the questions concerning their bowling problems in these warm-up matches.

Arshdeep Singh was seen giving fans autographs after his match-winning performance. Indian fans will hope that the young pacer from Punjab will continue this same form going into the Super 12, especially in India’s game against Pakistan on October 23.

These warm-up matches will allow India to get accustomed to the conditions in Australia as the margins in this high-octane format are very fine. India’s next warm-up game against Western Australia 11 will take on 13th October in Perth.

“As soon as I wore the blazer, it felt like my chest was swollen with pride” – Arshdeep Singh

Arshdeep got emotional as he wore the Team India blazer for a group photograph before the Indian contingent left for Australia for the T20 World Cup.

Speaking to Chahal on BCCI’s special segment ‘Chahal TV’, the left-arm pacer stated that it was a proud moment for him, saying:

“My chest is not that broad, you can relate (laughs). But as soon as I wore the blazer, it felt like my chest was swollen with pride. It was definitely a proud moment.”

Arshdeep will be tasked with bowling in the death overs after star pacer Jasprit Bumrah was ruled out of the T20 World Cup due to an injury. He has featured in 13 T20Is so far, picking up 19 wickets with a best of 3/12.
