Ankush Das Rahul Dravid Spills Beans On Royal Challengers Bangalore's Failure In IPL

Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) are one of the few teams who are yet to put a hand of the coveted trophy. In the last 12 years of the history of the competition, the Virat Kohli-led side has reached the finals a couple of times but is yet to lift the trophy. Trying to dissect the reason behind their failure, former India skipper Rahul Dravid rued an unbalanced side for not going all the way.

The Royal Challengers have never won the IPL but finished runners-up on three occasions between 2009 and 2016. Their lack of success over the years despite the presence of various notable players has earned them the tag of underachievers. They also hold the records of both the highest and the lowest totals in the IPL – 263/5 and 49 respectively.

The Virat Kohli-led side had some of the most exciting talents in their ranks but somehow they have failed to strike the balance. The former India cricketer and director of the National Cricket Academy, Rahul Dravid also feels it is due to the lack of balance in their playing XI they are yet to win the league.

Bangalore have never balanced their team very well,” Dravid was quoted in a book written by Tim Wigmore and Freddie Wilde. “I think they’ve been very poor with selections and auctions.

Bangalore have never balanced their team very well. They had their best year when they had a bowler like Mitchell Starc who was able to close out games for them. But they kept going out and picking gun batsmen," he added.

Meanwhile, BCCI has postponed the competition until April 15 in the wake of the coronavirus pandemic. With the current situation in place, the future of the forthcoming edition looks extremely bleak.
