Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan recently shared insights into Rohit Sharma’s evolution as a leader, emphasizing his maturity and ability to handle pressure situations. Having played as Rohit’s opening partner for nearly a decade, Dhawan believes Sharma’s extensive experience has equipped him with the skills to manage the team effectively.
“From 2013 to 2025, 12 years of experience is significant. Rohit has faced numerous challenges and knows how to guide the team under pressure,” Dhawan remarked in The Shikhar Dhawan Experience on Star Sports and JioHotstar.
He also highlighted Rohit’s balanced leadership style, knowing when to be lenient and when to assert control. According to Dhawan, the Indian team is in a strong position under Rohit’s leadership, thanks to his close bond with teammates.

Dhawan also reflected on his partnership with Rohit Sharma, which began during the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy. He revealed that the decision to open together was made just hours before their first match, a move initiated by then-captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni.
“I was making a comeback and needed to perform well, but Dhoni made the call and told Rohit to open with me,” Dhawan recalled.
Their partnership had an immediate impact, with the duo putting up a strong 100-run stand in their first match. Despite challenging conditions, they adapted and built a formidable pairing that lasted nearly a decade. Looking back, Dhawan admitted he never expected their partnership to become so successful and endure for so many years.

“We have been friends since our teenage years, playing together in the Under-19 World Cup. That connection remained strong both on and off the field,” Dhawan said.
