Asia Cup 2020 Set To Be Cancelled – Reports

The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has put the entire cricket schedule in a haste. This has put the future of another event in jeopardy. The Asia Cup 2020 has been cancelled, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly confirmed.

Meanwhile, the chairman of the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) Nazmul Hasan is yet to confirm on the same. But Ganguly in a conversation with Sports Tak has confirmed on the recent development. This will remove darks clouds over IPL 2020 as BCCI is keen to host the tournament in September-October.

Speculations were going around that the organisers will call off Asia Cup 2020 due to the pandemic. PCB recently claimed that they will continue to play the Asia Cup even if ICC postpones the T20 World Cup in Australia. But this is unlikely to happen with Sourav Ganguly confirming the news.

With Asia Cup 2020 cancelled and ICC to officially declaring the deferment of the T20 World Cup, BCCI will find their window to host IPL 2020. The tournament, originally scheduled to commence from March 29, was postponed for an indefinite period.

But IPL Governing Council was keen to host the event and their dreams are coming true. Speculations are going that the entire tournament can take place in Mumbai. If the tournament moves out of India due to spike in the number of cases, UAE is the front-runner to host IPL 2020.
