Asia Cup 2023: India Squad Announced For The Mega Event

The Board of Cricket Control for India announced a 17-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 starting from 30th August onwards. KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer returned to the Indian set-up after a long layoff due to injuries.

Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, KL Rahul, Shreyas Iyer, Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma comprises the batting unit as well. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, and Axar Patel would lead the all-round options. Prasidh Krishna, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur comprise the pace bowling options.

Notably, Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna returned to the Indian ODI set-up after impressive performances in the two T20I matches against Ireland. However, Kuldeep Yadav, Axar Patel, and Ravindra Jadeja will lead the spin bowling options. The return of Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul will be a major boost for the Indian middle order. Yuzvendra Chahal has been dropped from the ODI squad.

India’s chances in Asia Cup 2023

The Indian Cricket Team would look to perform well in the upcoming Asia Cup 2023. Rohit Sharma-led side will take on Pakistan in their first match of the tournament to be played on 2nd September at Palleke International Stadium, Kandy before they end the league stage facing Nepal on 4th September at the same venue.

The Men in Blue would look to tick the boxes with good performances during Asia Cup 2023. The top 2 teams in both groups will qualify for the Super 4 stage. Each team will play 3 matches in the Super 4 stage before the top two teams would reach the finals on 17th September 2023.

KL Rahul injured himself while fielding during the Indian Premier League 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. He took part in a practice match at NCA batting and wicketkeeping. Shreyas Iyer also did the same thing fielding for 50 overs and batted for 38 overs.
