In a surprising turn of events, Rohit Sharma found himself sharing an unwanted record with Virat Kohli during the Super 4 match of the Asia Cup 2023.

Rohit, the captain of the Indian cricket team, faced a dismal performance as he scored a duck, failing to contribute to his side’s cause.

This marked Rohit’s 15th instance of being dismissed without scoring a run in his extensive 249-match One Day International (ODI) career.

What’s intriguing is that this number exactly matched Virat Kohli’s tally of ducks in ODI cricket, placing them on par in this peculiar statistic.

The dubious distinction of having the most ducks in an ODI career goes to Sri Lankan legend Sanath Jayasuriya, with a staggering 34 ducks. Among Indian players, the batting maestro Sachin Tendulkar comes second with 20 such dismissals.

Other notable Indian players in this category include Javagal Srinath with 19 ducks, Anil Kumble and Yuvraj Singh with 18 each, Harbhajan Singh with 17, and Sourav Ganguly with 16.

Turning our attention to the India vs. Bangladesh Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 match, it was a thrilling encounter where individual performances shone but ultimately proved insufficient.

Shubman Gill delivered a remarkable performance, scoring 121 runs, displaying his refined skills with the bat.

Axar Patel also contributed valiantly with a late surge of 42 runs. However, despite their efforts, India fell short by a mere 6 runs against a determined Bangladesh side.

India’s chase of a 266-run target culminated in their being bundled out for 259 in 49.5 overs.

Mustafizur Rahman led the bowling attack for Bangladesh, securing three crucial wickets, while Mahedi Hasan and Tanzim Hasan Sakib also chipped in with two wickets each.

Notably, it was Tanzim Hasan Sakib’s debut international match, and he made a memorable impact with his effective bowling.

The first innings saw Bangladesh post a competitive total of 265 for 8 in 50 overs, courtesy of notable contributions from Shakib Al Hasan, who scored 80, and Tohwid Hridoy, who added 54 runs to the scoreboard.

India’s Shardul Thakur managed to take three wickets, while Mohammed Shami registered two wickets after Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl first.

Although Shubman Gill’s sensational century kept India’s hopes alive during the chase, his departure triggered a significant shift in the game’s dynamics.

Axar Patel fought valiantly towards the end but couldn’t carry India to victory. Bangladesh’s commendable composure in the tense finish deserves credit for their well-deserved triumph in this closely contested match.
