Asia Cup 2023: “Saving Runs For Modi Stadium” – Fans Mock Shubman Gill For His Slow Knock vs Pakistan

Shubman Gill‘s batting performance fell short in the intense 2023 Asia Cup clash between India and Pakistan in Pallekele, Sri Lanka, on Saturday, September 2nd. The right-handed batsman was dismissed for just 10 runs from 32 balls when he played onto his stumps.

In the 15th over of India’s innings, Gill was dismissed as Haris Rauf bowled a full-length delivery at 147 kmph, which moved away from the batsman. Despite Gill’s defensive attempt, an inside edge caused the stumps to shatter.

Throughout his innings, the 23-year-old opener appeared unsettled at the crease. His departure left India at 66/4 after 14.1 overs, with Pakistan making significant progress.

Gill’s performance has been inconsistent across different cricket formats after his impressive run with the Gujarat Titans in the Indian Premier League.

He recorded six scores in the single digits in various formats during the West Indies tour. Nonetheless, in his last One Day International (ODI) appearance in the Caribbean, the right-handed batsman managed to score 85 runs off 92 balls.

On the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter), fans heavily criticized the renowned opener for his underwhelming display against Pakistan. One user expressed:

“Shubman Gill saving runs for Modi Stadium Ahmedabad.”

Rohit Sharma’s decision to bat first against Pakistan backfires when Gill scores in single digits

Rohit Sharma’s choice to bat first against Pakistan under overcast conditions proved costly for India on Saturday. Shaheen Afridi dismissed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, while Haris Rauf removed Shreyas Iyer and Shubman Gill.

At the toss, Rohit said:

“We are going to bat first. There is a bit of weather around, but can’t think much about it. Got to play good cricket, you need to embrace the challenge, embrace the situation.”

As of the current moment, India stands at 117/4 after 23 overs, with Hardik Pandya and Ishan Kishan batting. They aim to build a partnership and mount a comeback.

India’s playing XI:  Rohit Sharma as captain, along with Shubman Gill, Ishan Kishan as the wicketkeeper, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Shardul Thakur, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, and Mohammed Siraj.
