On Friday, September 8, a group of Indian players, including Suryakumar Yadav, Shubman Gill, Shardul Thakur, and Shreyas Iyer, along with fielding coach T Dilip, engaged in a penalty shootout during their net session.
The Indian Cricket Team shared a video on Instagram showing them playfully aiming footballs at the stumps in an indoor setting. During the shootout, Yadav, Gill, and Thakur didn’t perform well, but Iyer (wearing a towel) successfully struck the off and middle stumps.
Dilip also managed to hit all three stumps. To celebrate the moment, the cricketers raised Iyer and Dilip’s hands, akin to victors in a wrestling match. The BCCI captioned the post:
“Target. That was some face-off. Never a dull day, clearly. #TeamIndia #AsiaCup.”

In his professional return, Iyer recently came back to the Indian team following a long injury break. However, in the ongoing Asia Cup 2023 group-stage match against Pakistan, he struggled, managing only 14 runs from nine balls. He aims to improve his performance in the upcoming Super-4 clash against the same team. In contrast, Gill had a fantastic performance against Nepal.
He scored an unbeaten 67 runs from 62 deliveries, including one six and eight boundaries, as India secured a 10-wicket victory. This came after he had a tough outing against Pakistan, scoring just 10 runs from 32 balls. He is eager to make amends against Pakistan. Thakur contributed with a crucial wicket, breaking the opening partnership between Nepal’s Kushal Bhurtel and Aasif Sheikh in the previous game by dismissing Bhurtel, caught behind the wickets by Ishan Kishan.
Meanwhile, Yadav is currently on the bench during the Asia Cup 2023. All four of these players are part of India’s 15-member squad for the upcoming 2023 ODI World Cup in India.
Shreyas Iyer takes centre stage in the upcoming Indo-Pak Asia Cup 2023 match
The spotlight will be firmly on Shreyas Iyer during the upcoming Indo-Pak Asia Cup 2023 showdown this Sunday. He aims to excel in the match as the competition intensifies for the No.4 and No.5 positions.
Following wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan’s solid performance of 82 runs off 81 balls at No.5 against Pakistan, Shreyas Iyer is determined to maintain his edge over KL Rahul, who recently rejoined the Indian team after recovering from an injury.
