Rohit Sharma once again charmed everyone with his humorous responses during the press conference that followed their victory in the Asia Cup 2023 on Sunday, September 17. This marked Rohit’s second time lifting the Asia Cup trophy as captain, having previously won it in 2018.

The influential player spoke to the media during the press conference in Colombo after sealing a remarkable 10-wicket win over Sri Lanka in the final. While addressing the conference, Rohit had to take a brief pause due to the noise from the firecrackers being set off outside.

The Indian captain then mentioned: “World Cup jeetne ke baad phodo yaar.” (Burst the crackers after we win the World Cup).

Team India had an excellent buildup to the upcoming World Cup during the Asia Cup. Jasprit Bumrah and KL Rahul, who had been sidelined due to injuries, made successful comebacks to 50-over cricket and delivered notable performances in the competition.

Hardik Pandya, on the other hand, stood out as the team’s Most Valuable Player (MVP) with outstanding contributions in crucial situations, both with the ball and the bat.

A performance like that in the final will be cherished for a long time: Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma praised his fellow players for delivering a precise performance in the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka on Sunday. He recognized the efforts of the fast bowlers and expressed satisfaction in seeing them achieve success after their dedicated work over the past couple of years.

Following the game, Rohit Sharma commented: “It was a great performance. To come out and play in the finals like that shows the mental character of everyone who has been a part of the team. It was great from the outset. The way we started with the ball and then a clinical finish with the bat. Our seamers are working really hard for many years and to be rewarded like that is very pleasing for the side moving forward.”

He further added: “A performance like that in the final will be cherished for a long time. I never thought it was going to do that much. It comes back to the skillset of the individuals. Quite pleasing to move forward in this direction with this confidence. We look forward to the series coming up in India and then the World Cup.”

India’s ODI series against Australia is set to begin on September 22 in Mohali.
