Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc emerged victorious in the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 Super Eight match against Team India captain Rohit Sharma. The game is taking place at the Darren Sammy International Stadium in St. Lucia on Monday, June 24.
Starc delivered a yorker that grazed the inside edge before crashing into the stumps, rearranging them. The wicket fell in the 12th over when Mitchell Marsh reintroduced Starc into the attack to stem the flow of runs. Starc changed his angle to around the wicket and aimed for the blockhole.
Though the batsman managed to get a slight inside edge, the ball brushed the pads before crashing into the stumps. The 34-year-old bowler appeared visibly pumped to dismiss the opposing captain after he had scored 92 runs from 41 balls.
Meanwhile, Mitchell Marsh won the toss and chose to bowl first. The Indian team retained the same lineup, while Australia made one change, replacing Mitchell Starc with Ashton Agar.
Rohit Sharma has executed a milestone by hitting the first 200 sixes in T20I records
The 37-year-old opener made history by becoming the inaugural player to reach 200 sixes in T20 international cricket during the second over. Additionally, he surpassed Babar Azam as the top run-scorer in the shortest format.
This marked Rohit’s second fifty in this year’s competition, following his initial one against Ireland in New York. The Indian team, alongside South Africa, remains undefeated in the T20 World Cup. They secured effective victories over Afghanistan and Bangladesh in the Super 8 phase.
Meanwhile, Australia finds themselves in a critical situation following a loss to Afghanistan and faced potential elimination from the tournament if they fail to defeat India.
