Australia could be dealt with a major blow as star batter Travis Head has been contracted with COVID and is set to join the squad late ahead of the second Test match against West Indies to be played from 25th January onwards at Gabba, Brisbane.

The Australian team thrashed West Indies by 10 wickets on the 3rd morning of the 1st Test match at Adelaide Oval. Travis Head fell sick after the first test match. They would assemble in Brisbane on Monday and would go without him. He will spend an extra day at his home hopeful to be negative.

The explosive left-handed batter would be allowed to play the second Test match at Brisbane if he tests positive again under isolation protocols. Matt Renshaw was allowed to play in the third Test match at Sydney Cricket Ground, SCG against South Africa last year despite being COVID-positive.

Travis Head Scored Match Winning Century In First Test

Travis Head scored a match-winning century in the first innings of the first Test match at Adelaide Oval. Australia looked in some trouble at 67 for 3 after the fall of Cameron Green’s wicket. He came to the crease with positive intent keeping the pressure on West Indies bowling.

It was a brilliant batting display by Head keeping the momentum going as the rest of the Australian batters struggled. He took on the short deliveries making life tough for West Indies bowlers. The explosive left-handed batter completed his 7th Test century. He was eventually dismissed with a counter-attacking knock of 119 off 124 balls with 12 fours and 3 sixes that helped Australia take 95 95-run lead in the first innings.

Travis Head took a sharp reflex catch at short leg to dismiss Kraigg Braithwaite in the second innings. It was a commanding bowling effort as Australia bowled out West Indies for just 120 runs. Australia chased down the target with ease winning by 10 wickets.

For the match-winning century, Travis Head was named the player of the match award. Australia is currently at number 1 in the ICC 2023-25 Test Championship points table.
