Team India’s upcoming tour of Australia has kept the fans excited amid the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic. Virat Kohli & Co will play the hosts in three T20Is, followed by four Tests and three ODIs. Former Aussie cricketer Brett Lee believes India need to keep Kohli in check to be on top in the upcoming series.
India scripted history when they toured down under in 2018-19. They registered their first-ever Test series win beating the host 2-1. Taking that into consideration, the upcoming series has all the recipes to excite the fans.
Australia needs to keep Virat Kohli under check – Brett Lee
The four-Test series will commence from December 3, India will then attempt to end Australia’s unbeaten record in Adelaide day-night Tests. Adelaide will host the only day-night Test of the tour ahead of Perth. Meanwhile, Melbourne and Sydney will host the traditional Boxing Day and New Year Tests.
As India look to defend the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Brett Lee has rung the warning signs for the home side. The former cricketer believes Australia need to keep the talismanic run-scorer Virat Kohli under check to win back the trophy.
“He is obviously a world-class player and Australia will have to make sure they’ve got clear concise plans to bowl to him. I think if they can put him under pressure early in the series that will allow maybe Australia to go on top of him,” Times Now quoted Lee as saying.
Despite the Virat Kohli challenge, Brett Lee reckons Australia will be a tough side to beat with Steve Smith and David Warner in their ranks. Last time, both of them missed out due to the prevailing ban because of their role on ball-tampering scandal. Lee said the Aussie batters will have to keep the Indian pace attack at bay to take an early grip in the four-match series.
