Australia vs England 2022: Schedule, Squads, And Live Streaming Details

Australia England

A few days after the completion of the T20 World Cup, where England were crowned champions for the second time, Jos Buttler and Co. will take on arch-rivals Australia in a three-match one-day international series.

This series will begin preparing both teams for the one-day world cup next year in India and test their best 11 for the following year. These three matches are not part of the ongoing ICC ODI Super League which doesn’t have much significance.

Jos Buttler was named the white ball captain after Eoin Morgan retired earlier this year. Buttler is on a high of just winning the T20 World Cup and will look even to lift the one-day trophy again next year. England has some questions for which they require answers.

England has recalled Jason Roy, who was dropped from the T20 format due to poor form. They will hope for him to regain form as he is an integral part of their ODI set-up. He has been assigned the task of giving explosive starts to the team. The retirement of Ben Stokes from this format will allow other players like Dawid Malan, Sam Billings and James Vince to grab their opportunities.

Billings and Vince had their last appearance in this format last year against Sri Lanka and Pakistan, respectively. Vince had scored his maiden ton in his previous outing versus Pakistan.

Amongst the bowlers, Chris Jordan and Olly Stone will look to cement their spots ahead of the world cup. The former has been considered a T20 specialist for the three lions for the last few years.

England has a well-rounded squad with several options at the captain’s disposal, including bowlers bowling more than 140 kmph. The players will seek opportunities to get a longer rope to play games in this format, given that the world cup is a year away.

Pat Cummins to debut as Australia’s ODI skipper

This series will debut Pat Cummins, the captain after taking over from Aaron Finch, who retired from the format earlier this year. Travis Head, who returns to the squad after missing the home series versus New Zealand and Zimbabwe, will replace the recently retired Finch at the top of the order.

Glenn Maxwell was recently ruled out of the series due to a fractured leg. This will give Mitchell Marsh and Cameron Green opportunities in the middle order. Apart from being a finisher, Maxwell also provides an off-spinning option to the captain. These all-rounders have big shoes to fill in, as they will have to contribute in all facets of the game to make a place for themselves in the squad.

The pace trio of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins and Josh Hazlewood return to the team. The board is making a conscious effort to manage their workload, given that Australia has both the Ashes and the World Cup next year.

Both teams are evenly matched in the series, as there are questions that need to be answered by both teams before the beginning of the marquee event in India. These three games will allow both teams to try what type of combination they want to play with. This series promises to be high-scoring, involving high-intensity games with several matchups. There is no chance that a series between these teams wouldn’t involve any form of drama.
