After Team India expressed their reluctance to travel to Brisbane for the fourth and final Test match of the series, a BCCI official has said that the Brisbane Test is on at the moment starting as per the scheduled date from January 15.

While speaking to Cricbuzz, the BCCI official spoke about the unwillingness of the Indian team to travel to Brisbane due to the tight quarantine rules. In response, the Queensland Government took a jibe at the Indian team saying that the Indian team better should not play if they cannot obey the rules.

“If you look at it, we were quarantining for 14 days in Dubai before landing in Sydney and doing so for another 14 days. That means we were in a hard bubble for nearly a month before coming out. What we don’t want now is to quarantine again at the end of the tour,” a source in the Indian team told Cricbuzz.

He further opined, “We aren’t keen on going to Brisbane if it means being stuck in the hotel again, except for going to the ground. Instead, we don’t mind being in some other city, playing both Test matches there to complete the series and returning home.”

Brisbane Test On As Of Now: BCCI Official

Despite the Indian team’s unwillingness, the Brisbane Test is on as per latest reports. The BCCI has not put any request of a change of venue as of now. “It’s a fluid situation. Let’s wait for a few more days,” a BCCI official told PTI.

Queensland has closed its borders for people travelling from New South Wales as the number of active COVID-19 cases continue to be on the rise in Sydney and other surrounding areas. Meanwhile, there will be stricter rules in place for players prior to the match.

All Indian Players Test COVID Negative

Meanwhile, all the players of the Indian squad have tested COVID-negative following their recent tests done in Melbourne before flying off to Sydney.

“Playing members of the Indian Cricket Team and support staff underwent an RT-PCR Test for Covid-19 on January 3, 2021. All tests have returned negative results,” BCCI said in its media release.
