Australian All-Rounder Cameron White Retires From Professional Cricket

Former Australia all-rounder Cameron White has decided to retire from professional cricket after a career spanning almost two decades. The 37-year-old said that his focus from now onwards will be on his coaching career. White will continue to play at Premier Cricket level as captain of Melbourne Cricket Club.

The former Aussie cricketer represented his national side in four Tests, 91 ODIs and 47 T20Is. White also captained Australia seven times in his career in both ODIs and T20s. He is currently mentoring Victoria’s Under-19 prospects online via Zoom.

“I’ve definitely finished up playing, that’s for sure”, he told website cricket.com.au. “I had a one-year playing contract with the Strikers. I only played a handful of games with them last year and in those games, I would have needed to play really well to get another deal”, he added.

“To be totally honest, I’m pretty content. I think my time is definitely up, I’ve had enough from a playing point of view and I’m ready to focus on coaching”, White said.

Meanwhile, Cameron White is now excited to have a coaching career is assured of finding an assistant role with a Big Bash League club. However, he affirmed that he has not put his name forward to take over the vacant head coaching job with Victoria.

As far as White’s domestic career is concerned, the former cricketer claimed a total of 10 domestic titles. Also, six Sheffield Shields, a domestic one-day crown, two wins in the old state-based T20 league and a BBL trophy. White also ended as his stateside Victoria’s fifth all-time leading first-class run-scorer.

Moreover, the Aussie also had a brief Indian Premier League career. Between 2008-2013 he played a total of 47 IPL matches in which he accumulated 954 runs at an average of 26.5 and strike rate of 126.3 including 6 half-centuries. He represented Royal Challengers Banglore and Sunrisers Hyderabad in his IPL career.
