Bangladesh Ropes In Two Former Cricketers as Coaching Staff

Bangladesh Cricket Board has added two former players as a part of team management. Former South African pacer Charl Langeveldt and Kiwi all-rounder Daniel Vettori will now join the dressing room as the coaching staff. While the former has been appointed as a full-time coach for a period of two years, the latter will work for a specific duration.

Vettori will function as a spin bowling consultant for the national side starting from the Indian series. Bangladesh will tour India in November for the T20I and test series. He will be available for a period of 100 days, including the T20 world cup in Australia next year.

Langeveldt and Vettori have been assets for their respective sides in the past. Vettori also has a lot of exposure to the coaching role as he was involved with Brisbane Heat and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the past. Langeveldt, on the other hand, has over 134 International wickets to his name in all three formats of the game. It will be interesting to see how the side would groom with the guidance of the two.

However, the team will not be having the services of the head coach anytime now. Steve Rhodes quit from the role right after the world cup. The board has been working in a full swing to find a replacement for the same. The management is keen to engage with a former subcontinent coach to build a stronger unit.

Though reports emerged regarding the consideration of Chandika Hathurusingha, the BCB president Mr. Hassan slashed them. He said, “He will be considered if he applies. But neither we approached him, nor did he apply so far.”

The Lankan test

Bangladesh is currently playing a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka now. After a loss in the first game, the side will be looking forward to making a statement in games to come.

Both sides have been giving the best on the field and the focus now shifts to the second game today. With a lot of youngsters on both sides, a mouthwatering clash on the cards?
