Batting Coach Vikram Rathour praises Rohit Sharma on his splendid efforts

After his breathtaking century on the first day of the third Test, the batting coach Vikram Rathour applauded Rohit Sharma for his efforts in the middle. He spoke about a lot of aspects of his new role in the longest format of the game.

After being in a miserable position at 39/3, Rohit and Rahane”s partnership of 200+ runs played an important role in shaping up the innings.

“He (Rohit) is too good a player to not play all formats. Opening the batting with him was the right decision. And the number of runs he has scored, he has settled the issue (of opening) for the time being. If somebody of his stature starts coming good at the top of the order, that changes everything for the team, even when you are touring. He is such an experienced player; I don”t think you need to tinker with his technique. He just had to make some mental adjustments to his gameplan”, said Rathour in the post-match conference.

It is to be noted that Rohit wasn”t a permanent member of the Test set-up. After a lot of opening issues, the management addressed the issue by promoting him as an opener in the ongoing series against the Proteas. Now, he has answered all the questions thus solving the problem.

Records and Rohit

Rohit now has over 529 runs in the three-match Test series. He also has several records to his name after his stunning 212 today. He is also only the fourth player to have a double century in tests and ODI cricket as well.

With still a lot more action to come in the home season, can Rohit Sharma continue his dominance as an opener in all the formats for India?
