The Canberra and Hobart bubbles will treat the initial few matches of Big Bash League (BBL) 2020-2021. The premier T20 league of Australia is all set to begin on December 10. Due to the COVID-19 scare the scheduling of the matches this year has been extremely hectic for Cricket Australia.
The board has now decided to use two venues in Canberra and Hobart respectively to conduct the initial contests of BBL this year. Bellerive Oval in Hobart and Manuka Oval in Canberra will conduct matches from December 10 before to league shifts to Queensland on December 23 and Adelaide on December 28.
BBL 2020-2021 Will Begin On December 10
The Blundstone Arena in Hobart will host the inaugural match of the league between Hobart Hurricanes and defending champs Sydney Sixers. Hobart Hurricanes, Perth Scorchers, Melbourne Renegades, Sydney Sixers and Adelaide Strikers will all play their first few matches in Hobart. Whereas the remaining teams Brisbane Heat and Melbourne Stars, Sydney Thunder will be based in Canberra to kick off their BBL campaign.
During the BBL season, the much-anticipated Test series between India and Australia will also begin on December 17 with a day-night match at Adelaide. As a result during the pink ball Test, Cricket Australia has decided to conduct the BBL matches in the morning. Also for the rest of the Test series between India and Australia, BBL matches have been listed after stumps.
“This is, without doubt, the most complex fixturing task ever undertaken by the League and we are excited with where it has landed. It has been a difficult year for so many people around Australia and we look forward to bringing the BBL to every state should border conditions allow us to”, said Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia’s Head of Big Bash Leagues, said.
