To make sense of the players’ pay for their participation in the 2023 ODI World Cup, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has released a statement. Concerning rumors persist that the cricketers did not receive payment for representing the country in an ICC event even after nine months lapse.

BCB have made it clear that the delay was not caused by the Board’s negligence and have attributed it to tax and civil service requirements although invoices were submitted in time. They also say that these sorts of delays are common practice after ICC events and therefore a solution is overdue.

The statement noted that BCB has retained an internationally recognized accounting firm- Deloitte Haskins & Sells LLP- to speed up delivery. Moreover, they assured players would receive payments soon.

“The BCB strongly refutes the untrue remarks made by the concerned councilor and vehemently protests the insinuations of malpractice against the Board and its officials on this matter. Such allegations are baseless and undermine the integrity of the BCB’s operations,” the statement read.

At this stage, the BCB finds itself quite unstable due to Bangladesh experiencing political turmoil. To avoid cricket being affected by local incidents, there have been tangible attempts to keep its activities moving forward.

Bangladesh placed eighth in the 2023 ODI World Cup

The 2023 ODI World Cup started off on a good foot for Shakib Al Hasan (and his geese). After winning comfortably over Afghanistan, their journey went downhill from there. Eventually, they achieved another victory against Sri Lanka during league play but by then it was already too late because they were beaten by Netherlands and ended up last among all teams with just four points.

That low placement also resulted in Bangladesh’s slim qualification for the 2025 Champions Trophy in Pakistan. Now this team is visiting Pakistan for a two-match test series under the 2023-25 World Test Championship (WTC).
