The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to approve the addition of two new teams in the upcoming edition of Indian Premier League (IPL). Cricfit earlier reported that IPL 2021 will have more than eight teams and now it has been understood the apex board is set to approve the addition of two new franchises.
Rumours started going rounds soon after IPL 2020 concluded about new teams being added from the next season. And now a report in Cricbuzz has confirmed the same. Approval will be taken from the representatives of all the state associations for the inclusion of two new teams in the IPL at the BCCI Annual General Meeting.
10 teams to compete in IPL 2021
The BCCI has reportedly listed a total of 23 matters to be discussed at the AGM including the election of the vice president. Mahim Verma, who held the post after being elected unopposed last year, has given his resignation and is set to be replaced.

Meanwhile, the meeting is set to be held on December 24, stated a notice sent to the affiliated units by BCCI, signed by secretary Jay Shah.
With the addition of two new teams, a mega auction ahead of the next seasons becomes evident which is likely to change the dynamics of the tournament. Teams like Chennai Super Kings, Kings XI Punjab, and Rajasthan Royals have been in favour of a mega auction as they look to revamp their squad. On the other hand, defending champions Mumbai Indians and runner-up Delhi Capitals have opposed the auction, reports stated.
Previously, BCCI had asked the franchises to wait until December for a decision on mega or mini auction. A decision on the same is likely on the cards in the AGM as there hasn’t been any official verdict on the matter yet.
