The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is not keen on hosting pink-ball day and night Test matches for the time being. India has hosted only three day and night Test matches so far. According to the home schedule of the Indian Men’s and Women’s teams, there is no day and night Test match soon.

India hosted the first pink-ball Test against Bangladesh in 2019 at the Eden Gardens. They are yet to host a women’s day and night test in the country. The BCCI Secretary Jay Shah expressed that the nature of matches has prompted the BCCI to put a hold on pink-ball Tests for the time being.

“We will have to increase the amount of interest in the public for the pink-ball Test. If you recall, the (pink-ball) Tests ended in two or three days. Everyone wants to watch a Test match lasting four to five days. Once they get more used to it, we will do more pink-ball Tests.” Shah said after the conclusion of the WPL 2024 auction.

“Last time it was done in Australia, no one has done it since then. We were in talks with England, but we will do it gradually,” he added.

India in Day and Night Test matches

The Indian Men’s team has played four day-night Test matches so far. They have won all of their three home pink ball tests. They beat Bangladesh in their first-ever Day-Night game at Kolkata. India also defeated England and Sri Lanka at home. They have played only one away day and night test, which they lost to Australia.

Meanwhile, the women’s team has played only one day-night test. They toured Australia in 2021, playing their maiden pink ball test at the Carrara Stadium, Gold Coast, Queensland. The Indian team put up a good show, as the test ended in a draw.
