BCCI Plans To Keep The Second IND vs BAN 2024 Test In Kanpur Despite Protest Threats- Reports

The second Test between India and Bangladesh, set to take place at Green Park in Kanpur, is anticipated to go ahead as planned despite initial protest threats. This red-ball series kicks off the home season in the subcontinent, with Chennai hosting the first Test starting September 19.

The start of the Test has been tainted by prior warnings from a right-wing faction called the Hindu Mahasabha. Their claim is that they will create a scene during the second Test against the team from abroad in response to the recent killings of Hindu people in Bangladesh, which coincides with a changeover in politics.

In spite of these unrest signals, BCCI is fully convinced to organize its second test at Kanpur itself without any obstacles at all.

“Yes, we are closely monitoring the situation in coordination with the concerned authorities. We have taken all necessary measures to ensure the match goes ahead as scheduled, and the stadium is fully prepared to host both teams,” a BCCI official told SportsTak.

“The match is not going anywhere — it will be held in Kanpur. However, we will continue to keep an eye on developments, both in Kanpur and at the other venues,” the official added.

The Bangladesh players have been suffering from both on-the-field and off-the-field problems due to the civil unrest in their home country. In conjunction with this, there have been many changes in the personnel of the cricket board while these players, with the help of PCB had to depart for Pakistan earlier.

The Green Park in Kanpur last hosted a Test match in 2021

In the late months of 2021, an international competition was last hosted by Kanpur when New Zealand toured India. This match became the very first in the series between these two sides which famously ended up in a thrilling draw.

The match’s dark light turned into its hallmark since Blackcaps escaped with one wicket left. As such, Rachin Ravindra and Ajaz Patel’s spin bowling pair bowled out 8.4 overs at this point before play was stopped just twelve minutes short of time. It was also during this period that Shreyas Iyer had his first Test innings.

The second Test between India and Bangladesh is scheduled to start on Friday, September 27.
