BCCI Provides Injury Update On Rishabh Pant After Day 1 Of 4th Test vs England

The BCCI issued an update on Rishabh Pant’s health after the wicketkeeper-batter sustained a serious injury during Day 1 of the fourth Test against England. The match, part of the five-Test series, began on Wednesday, July 23, at Old Trafford in Manchester.

Pant injured his right foot while attempting a reverse shot and had to be taken off the field on a medical cart. The Indian vice-captain was visibly in severe pain and struggled to walk following the incident. Following the conclusion of play on Day 1, the Board of Control for Cricket in India confirmed that Pant was taken to the hospital for medical scans.

Sharing the update on X (formerly Twitter), the BCCI stated:

“Rishabh Pant was hit on his right foot while batting on Day 1 of the Manchester Test. He was taken for scans from the stadium. The BCCI Medical Team is monitoring his progress.”

Additionally, Sudharsan attended the post-match press conference at the end of Day 1, where he was asked about Rishabh Pant’s injury status. Speaking to the media (as quoted by RevSportz), the batter said:

“Oh he was in a lot of pain and he’s now at the hospital taking scans. We’ll know about the update probably soon. If he’s not coming back in this match it’s obviously a blow but the other batters are also ready to do their part.”

England Take Upper Hand At Stumps On Day 1

Rishabh Pant’s retirement hurt further compounded India’s woes on a day where England enjoyed success with the ball. While the visitors started strongly in the opening session, England bounced back effectively in the next two, claiming wickets at regular intervals to shift momentum in their favour.

Following the dismissals of openers KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, skipper Shubman Gill also fell cheaply. However, Sai Sudharsan steadied the innings with a composed knock, scoring 61 off 151 balls before being dismissed late in the final session.

With Pant sidelined due to injury, India will resume Day 2 with Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur at the crease. The team ended Day 1 at 264 for 4.
