Former Indian spinner Pragyan Ojha has asked the BCCI to take strong action against the racial abuse copped up by Indian pacers Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah on day 3 of the SCG Test.

Both the bowlers have hurled abuses and racially abused after the day’s play on Day 3. Siraj brought up the issue to the umpires with his skipper Ajinkya Rahane. The BCCI then lodged a complaint against the same as well.

Pragyan Ojha has asked the BCCI to take up the matter seriously with Cricket Australia (CA) and ensure a strong message is sent to the Australian board over the issue of racism.

Pragyan Ojha Asks BCCI To Take Strict Action

“Now, Ajinkya Rahane, the coach and the management and the BCCI have to take it up seriously. This shouldn’t affect the game. Cricket has to be played the way it has to be played. But after the game is done, we should take it till this has been addressed in the strictest way. They should make sure that a very strong message should go to Cricket Australia and ICC should back it.,” Ojha was quoted as saying by India Today.

Meanwhile, as per ICC sources, Cricket Australia is responsible for taking correct action against the incident as the series is not being hosted by the international body. As per ICC laws, the member nations possess the right to ban or impose punishments on the fans, who are found guilty of racism or discrimination.

Meanwhile, six members of the crowd were asked to leave the SCG stands on the morning of Day 4 after they were abusing Mohammed Siraj yet again. Siraj walked in from fine leg before the start of the 87th over, and conversations between the India team and on-field umpires Paul Reiffel and Paul Wilson followed, before the officials made their way towards the stands.

Sean Carroll, Cricket Australia’s Head of Integrity and Security, said anyone who sought to vilify and/or harass had no place in Australian cricket.

“Cricket Australia condemns in the strongest terms possible all discriminatory behaviour. If you engage in racist abuse, you are not welcome in Australian cricket” Carroll said.
