Amid all the discussions on the coronavirus outbreak and sporting events being cancelled, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has removed commentator Sanjay Manjrekar from its panel. Incidentally, Manjrekar has copped severe criticisms from a section of fans for his controversial remarks.
Meanwhile, the former India cricketer is one of the most popular commentators in world cricket. While his controversial statements have often had him in trouble, but Sanjay Manjrekar has also developed a strong fan base with his unique commentary style. BCCI dropped him from the panel before the start of the recently-postponed ODI series between India and South Africa.
The decision went unnoticed because the first ODI in Dharamsala got washed out. According to Mumbai Mirror, Sanjay Manjrekar was not in Dharamsala while all the other BCCI panel commentators, including Sunil Gavaskar, L Sivaramakrishnan and Murali Kartik were present.

The former India batsman was part of the commentary panel for the last three World Cups and almost all ICC events since bringing down curtains on his illustrious career. However, the BCCI is not too impressed with his services in recent times.
Meanwhile, more trouble awaits him as the Sourav Ganguly-led BCCI is planning not to have Sanjay Manjrekar is the long panel for the upcoming IPL which was postponed till April 15 due to coronavirus outbreak. While the BCCI or Sanjay Manjrekar are yet to give an update on the latest turn of events, the news outlet quoted a BCCI source as saying that the ex-cricketer has been excluded from the panel.
“Maybe he will be left out from the IPL panel too. At this stage, it is not on top of our mind. But the fact is they are not happy with his work,” said the source.
