BCCI Reshuffles Selection Committees, Pragyan Ojha Likely To Join Ajit Agarkar Panel

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has decided to bring in two fresh names into its five-member senior selection committee, currently headed by Ajit Agarkar. An official advertisement was released on Friday, inviting applications for the open positions.

As per early reports, former left-arm spinner Pragyan Ojha is considered the frontrunner to take over from Get the latest cricket news here, like us on Facebook, and follow us on Twitter and Instagram for more such updates., who represented the South Zone.

Alongside, another change is expected with Central Zone selector Subroto Banerjee, who is likely to be replaced. Although the BCCI constitution does not mandate zonal representation, it remains a long-practised convention in cricket administration.

Role Adjustments, Not Performance Reviews

The exits from the selection panel are not being attributed to poor performance but rather to shifts in responsibilities. Sridharan Sharath is being lined up to return as Chairman of the junior selection committee, a role he previously held before joining the senior panel. The current junior committee head, Thilak Naidu, has not impressed decision-makers, prompting the reshuffle.

Under BCCI’s rules, no member of a cricket committee can serve beyond five years cumulatively, which means Sharath still has one more year of eligibility. The current senior selection panel also consists of Ajay Ratra and Shiv Sundar Das alongside Agarkar. Agarkar himself has secured an extension, with his contract running until September 2026.

During his tenure, the Indian team has enjoyed significant success, winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, the 2025 ODI Champions Trophy, and reaching the 2023 ODI World Cup final. He has also overseen a generational shift in Indian cricket with Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli retiring from Test cricket, followed by Shubman Gill’s elevation as captain.

Overhaul in Women’s Selection Committee

Parallel to the changes in the men’s panel, the women’s selection committee, led by Neetu David, is also set for a restructuring. Four members of the current panel—David, Aarti Vaidya, Kalpana Venkatachar, and Renu Margrate—are nearing the end of their terms in September. Only Shyama Shaw, who joined in 2023, is expected to continue.

This revamp is aimed at infusing fresh perspectives into the decision-making processes for Indian cricket, both in men’s and women’s categories. The upcoming appointments will therefore be crucial in shaping the trajectory of Indian cricket, particularly at a time when both teams are transitioning into new leadership phases.
