The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will contribute 2000 10-Litre Oxygen concentrators towards India’s fight against the coronavirus pandemic, the board said in a statement on Monday.
The second wave of COVID19 wreaked havoc in the country. The number of positive cases shot to almost 4 lakhs every day with 4000 death tolls across the length and breadth of the country. BCCI was also forced to halt IPL 2021 midway after a couple of bio-bubble breaches among the players and support staffs.
BCCI to donate 200 oxygen concentrators
While a few stakeholders vouched to continue to the tournament, BCCI and IPL Governing Council unanimously decided to postpone IPL 2021 keeping the safety of the players and everyone in mind. Meanwhile, in the wake of the ongoing crisis in the country, a number of cricketers have come forward to help along with the IPL franchises.
And now, BCCI has also pledged to donate oxygen concentrators that will provide immediate relief to the affected person and help in their recovery.
“The BCCI acknowledges the stellar role the medical and healthcare community has played and continues to play as we fight this long battle against the virus. They have truly been frontline warriors and have done whatever possible to shield us.
The Board has always put health and safety at the top of the chart and remains committed to the cause. The oxygen concentrators will provide immediate relief to those affected and will help in their speedy recovery,” BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said.
BCCI planning to host remaining IPL 2021 in UAE
Meanwhile, Sourav Ganguly & Co is planning to host the remainder of IPL 2021 in the UAE, much like the last season when the entire competition was staged in the UAE. It is likely that the cash-rich league might take in September end and October beginning after the five-match Test series against England.
