BCCI To Hold Conference Via Call With Franchises on March 24

As the coronavirus pandemic continues to expand its threat across the globe, the future of the forthcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020 looks very gloomy. The 13th edition of the cash-rich league has been postponed until April 15 in the wake of COVID-19 which was scheduled to start from March 29. But, BCCI has finally decided to take a step ahead with the growing scare of the virus in the country.

As per the current scenario, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has adopted a slow and steady approach. However, many possibilities came out in the media in the last few days. It all started with BCCI President Sourav Ganguly saying that the board could organise a shortened version of the IPL this year.

Moreover, reports have also suggested that IPL 2020 might take place in July-September when there are less international assignments. But the apex body is finally gearing up to take a call of the future of cash-rich league after Indian Government stated that the tournament should be cancelled this year.

As per reports, the BCCI has decided to conduct a conference call with the franchises on Tuesday, March 24. The call has been conducted so that the officials can have a chat with each of the franchise. The intent will be to understand the needs and reservations from each of the franchise owner in the wake of the COVID-19 scare. The discussions on whether the 13th edition of the IPL will be played on not will be done during the call.

With the coronavirus outbreak and social distancing the need of the hour, BCCI and the governing council have decided to hold the meeting over the phone. It will be interesting to see if there is any positive outcome from the meeting.
