The BCCI officials had a crunch meeting on January 11 to dissect India’s performance during the just-concluded Test series against Australia. The event was attended by captain Rohit Sharma, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief selector Ajit Agarkar. As it is found in a report, one of the recommendations presented during the meeting was concerning the guidelines of implementing the performance-based variable pay system for the players.
This new structure would link the player’s remuneration to their performances, in this case facilitating a merit-based structure. As for this system, the BCCI intends to apply it at different levels to increase the individual commitment of the players.
It remains a work in progress and more discussions are required concerning it before arriving at a common understanding. Still, the kind of performance-based pay structure that this new concept entails may well represent a turning point for the BCCI were it to be put into effect.
BCCI Player Guidelines: Performance-Based Pay Structure
The BCCI is now planning to provide variable pay schemes based on their performance among its contracted players. This decision has been made after a BCCI meeting with head coach Gautam Gambhir and chief selector Ajit Agarkar in Mumbai. This meeting was called for after India had suffered back-to-back Test series to New Zealand and Australia.
There is a plan in progress, to make the players more responsible, that can include salary reduction based on productivity. Lower performance levels also determine the earnings of a player in the manner of dissatisfaction.
This new structure is believed to help to improve the performance of the players on the field and there is sight of compensation with performance on the eld. The BCCI is likely to agree with the details of the new pay structure shortly.
