BCCI To Investigate CVC Capital Partners’ Involvement In Betting Companies

BCCI may send U23 players

The CVC Capital Partners, who have bought the Ahmedabad franchise for the price of INR 5625 Crores recently have come under the scanner for their alleged connection with some betting companies.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) will now investigate this matter and they have planned to appoint a neutral panel as well. And, the Supreme Court and High Court judges are likely to be involved in the esteemed panel. Meanwhile, there will be a meeting of the IPL governing council on 4th December 2021 where this is going to be discussed too.

If the BCCI disallows CVC Capital Partners, then the Adani Group will become the owner of the Ahmedabad franchise as well. However, if the BCCI decides not to allow them then the Adani Group will become the owners of the Ahmedabad franchise as they were the next highest bidder (INR 5100 Crores).

Notably, both the website of the CVC Capital Partners features Tipico and Sisal, as they are betting companies. While Tipco is an online gaming company, Sisal is a payments company as well. And, it is also noteworthy that betting is banned in India.

However, the founder and the very first chairman of the IPL, Lalit Modi had earlier tweeted that the BCCI has started allowing betting companies now to buy the teams in the cash-rich league.

“I guess betting companies can buy an IPL team. must be a new rule. apparently one qualified bidder also owns a big betting company. what next does BCCI not do their homework. what can Anti-corruption do in such a case ?,” tweeted Lalit Modi.
