BCCI Planning To Start Domestic Cricket From January 1, 2021- Sourav Ganguly

BCCI Boss Sourav Ganguly, in an exclusive interaction to PTI from Dubai has said that BCCI is planning to restart domestic cricket competition by 1st January 2021. Indian domestic cricket took a backseat due to the onset of COVID-19 in the country earlier this year. With the situations getting better, the BCCI is thinking off starting the domestic season by next year. The big bosses of BCCI met in a meeting on Sunday evening to decide on the latest development.

“We have had extensive discussions on domestic cricket and we have tentatively decided to start the competitions from January 1, 2021,” Sourav Ganguly told PTI.

Ganguly further said that the season might be a curtailed one given the fact that the season is starting late and fitting in a full-season will be impossible. He also assured that the junior cricket and women’s tournaments will be held between March and April.

“We will certainly have the full-fledged Ranji Trophy red-ball tournament. It will probably not be possible to hold all tournaments,” hinting that the BCCI is eying the January-March window for Ranji Trophy.

“We also have elaborate plans for our age group and women’s cricket. We will start with Ranji Trophy and then we will also have the other tournaments between March and April,” he said on starting age-group and women’s cricket.

BCCI Monitoring COVID Situation For England Series- Sourav Ganguly

Meanwhile, BCCI boss Sourav Ganguly earlier spoke about the possibilities of hosting England for a series at home. UAE is the back-up venue for the series. However, with BCCI confident of starting the domestic season next year, the England series also looks good to be played in the country. 

Ganguly said that the BCCI is monitoring the COVID situation in the country with enough time left for the start of the series. 

“The England series is good three and a half to four months away. We still have time. We are monitoring the situation (COVID-19) which is pretty fluid and will take a call accordingly.” said Ganguly.
