The opinion of MS Dhoni may play a significant role in choosing Team India’s next head coach. Now that Dhoni has completed his IPL career—the Chennai Super Kings were eliminated from the competition following a league loss to Royal Challengers Bengaluru—the BCCI is thinking of asking the legendary player to act as a mediator between the board and CSK head coach.

Rahul Dravid, the head coach of Team India, will step down following the 2024 T20 World Cup, which will take place in the USA and the West Indies.

According to BCCI insiders, MS Dhoni’s opinion may play a significant role in choosing Team India’s next head coach. In an attempt to resolve the impasse between the board and Stephen Fleming, the head coach of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), the BCCI is thinking of asking the renowned batsman for assistance.

IPL 2024

MS Dhoni is likely to be their last throw of the dice:

The BCCI has reportedly stated that Fleming, the head coach of CSK and a former captain of New Zealand, is their first pick to succeed Rahul Dravid as India’s head coach following the T20 World Cup. The former Kiwi great has acknowledged his reluctance to make a commitment that extends until 2027.

In his early talks with the BCCI in the run-up to the IPL, Fleming was clear about this. Following that, the BCCI began to explore other possibilities, reaching out to Mahela Jayawardene, Gautam Gambhir, and Justin Langer.

As their conversation continues, the board isn’t prepared to give up on Fleming just yet. MS Dhoni is probably going to be their final option.

Notably, Fleming is content with his brief tours with various franchise-owned clubs in T20 leagues throughout the world. In addition to CSK, Fleming is the head coach of the SA20’s Johannesburg Super Kings and Major League Cricket’s Texas Super Kings in the United States.
