The BCCI Vice-President Rajeev Shukla has reacted to Indian players Mohammed Siraj and Jasprit Bumrah being racially abused on the third day of the SCG Test. The team management had lodged an official complaint about the same as well.

It is believed that the Aussie crowd said nasty things even on day 2 and the management finally lodged a complaint after the end of the third day’s play. Meanwhile, the BCCI President Rajeev Shukla has reacted to the incident saying there is no place for racial abuse in the game of cricket.

“We have come to know about the issue. Cricket is a gentleman’s game and these kinds of things are not allowed or accepted. The team management is dealing with the matter. The BCCI, as well as the ICC, is aware of it and there are ICC rules and provisions which forbid anyone from making comments that are racial in nature” Rajeev Shukla said.

Australian Cricket Board Should Take Action Against Racial Abuse: Rajeev Shukla

He further said that the Australian Cricket Board should take appropriate action against it as these kinds of acts are not expected in the game of cricket. Meanwhile, the incident has drawn criticisms from all quarters and Cricket Australia is committed to taking strict actions against the perpetrators.

“In spite of that, if somebody is using racial comments, I think the Australian court should take cognizance of it and these kinds of incidents must be prevented. There is no place for such acts and these kinds of things are not allowed or accepted. I think every board should take cognizance of it and take strict measures to ensure such acts aren’t repeated,” Rajeev Shukla added.

Team India senior players Ravichandran Ashwin and skipper Ajinkya Rahane complained to the on-field umpires and brought the issue to their notice. Later the head coach of the Indian team Ravi Shastri also led his support to the players.
