The Board of Cricket Control in India (BCCI) is preparing stern actions against the Indian cricket team due to their poor performance on the Australian tour. It was learnt from various resources that the BCCI wants to reduce the time the players spend with their family, whereby spouses and girlfriends cannot join the players on tours after two weeks. This new rule will only apply to the long-term tours, which are tours that last over one and a half months.

Further, it emerged that players will have to use team buses in a bid to cultivate the aspect of togetherness as part of the team. In addition, players will be expected to pay any cost incurred in checking in other luggage on tour.

These new measures are expected to help the management of the team and enhance the team’s performance during the game. I think the BCCI’s move stems from their displeasure with the team’s form and their need to put in place seriousness into the team.

BCCI Suggested Rules:

  1. If a tournament is a 45-day or longer event, families will only be allowed to stay with players for 14 days.
  2. If the tour is shorter, the duration may be reduced to 7 days.
  3. Wives cannot stay with players for the entire tournament.
  4. Families can only stay for 2 weeks.
  5. All players will have to travel on the team bus.
  6. Gautam Gambhir’s personal manager will not be allowed to sit in the VIP box or travel on the team bus. He will have to stay in a different hotel.
  7. If players’ luggage exceeds 150 kg, BCCI will not cover the extra charges, and players will have to pay them.

Gautam Gambhir and Rohit Sharma recently met with the BCCI for a review following the Australia series. Regarding the team’s combination, the BCCI made the decision to refrain from making any rash decisions.
