England opener Ben Duckett believes his team is on the brink of victory in the following five Tests against India, commencing on June 20. India has a dismal record in England, winning just three series since their first visit in 1932. The last time India won a series in England was in 2007.
In 2021, India was ahead by two wins to one with one Test remaining. That Test, scheduled for September 2021, had to be cancelled due to a Covid outbreak in the Indian camp; it was then rescheduled and played in Birmingham a year later, with England sealing the series. Duckett considers India’s ace speedster Jasprit Bumrah to be no more of a surprise and says he has clear plans to face Mohammed Shami as well as Bumrah.
Ben Duckett believes Jasprit Bumrah will ‘no longer a surprise for him’
Ben Duckett, the opener for England, is certain that his team will win the forthcoming five-Test match series against India. He also thinks that nothing about India pacer Jasprit Bumrah would surprise him.
“I’ve faced him in a five-Test series before. I know what he’s going to do to me, and the good thing about that is I know what skills he has, There’s going to be nothing that surprises me. It’s going to be challenging, and the red-ball skills of Mohammed Shami are just as threatening as Bumrah. But if I can get through that opening spell, I feel there are runs to be had,” said Duckett.
Currently, Bumrah is recovering from an injury sustained in Australia during the fifth Test match of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. The injury occurred on the fourth day of the last Test against Australia at Sydney Cricket Ground in Sydney. He ended the five-Test match series as the highest wicket-taker, scalping in total 32 wickets. The speedster will be making his cricketing comeback in April during the Indian Premier League 2025.
