Ben Stokes stars as England defeat defying South Africa

After losing the 1st test to South Africa at Durban, England had questions to answer. They successfully answered all the questions in Newlands.

After winning the toss, Joe Root did what any captain would do after winning the toss in South Africa. England started off cautiously but lost Zak Crawley in the third over who was replacing Rory Burns.

Starts from everybody propelled England to a reasonable total as England finished at 269 in the first innings.

South Africa however couldn”t get their innings going and lost regular wickets. Only opener Dean Elgar and Rassie Van Der Dussen were the stand out batsmen for the South Africans. As South Africa only could get to 223, hence conceding a lead of 46 runs.

In the second innings the pitch became better to bat English opener capitalised on it as Dominic Sibley scored his maiden test century. Then came a moment of brilliance by the English All-rounder Ben Stokes who scored a quick fire 72 off 47 deliveries.

England declared at 391 asking the Proteas to chase 438 in second innings.

Debutant Pieter Malan and Dean Elgar started off autiously and planned in a positive manner to play out the tea session on the 4th day.

Pieter Malan scored 84 off 288 balls to help South Africa play draw in New lands test but couldn”t get much out of it.

Ben Stokes then came and destroyed South Africa”s tail who were looking to play the whole day 5 in order to get a draw of the test match.

England will now play South Africa in Port Elizabeth on 16th January in the four math test series.
