Veteran pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been away from the Indian cricket team for nearly three years, with his last appearance coming against New Zealand in November 2022 during a T20I series. That outing yielded just one wicket across three games, which weakened his case for future selections.
Since then, the experienced bowler has shifted his attention to domestic cricket, focusing on performing consistently for Uttar Pradesh. Despite being asked about the possibility of an international return, Bhuvneshwar has remained grounded, stating that the decision lies with the selectors while his responsibility is to give his best on the field.
Strong Domestic and IPL Performances
Bhuvneshwar’s dedication to the game has been evident through his recent performances. Speaking to Dainik Jagran, he emphasized his intent to contribute fully in every match, whether in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, Ranji Trophy, or domestic one-day competitions. His efforts were especially highlighted in the Indian Premier League 2025, where he represented Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).
Playing a crucial role in the franchise’s first-ever IPL title triumph, he picked up 17 wickets in 14 matches, maintaining an economy rate of 9.28. His consistency with the ball made him one of the top wicket-takers for the team, alongside Krunal Pandya. In the final clash against Punjab Kings at Ahmedabad, his figures of 2/38 underlined his importance to RCB’s victorious campaign.
Leadership and Future Prospects
Beyond the IPL, Bhuvneshwar showcased his leadership skills in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League, where he captained the Lucknow Falcons. Under his guidance, the side reached the playoffs, and he impressed with a brilliant four-wicket haul in a three-over spell during the competition. These performances have kept him in the spotlight among fans, many of whom are eager to see him feature in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2025–26 season.
While the door to Team India might not be entirely closed, the pacer has made it clear that he is focused solely on performing well in the opportunities he gets, whether at the domestic level or franchise cricket. His calm and professional approach continues to make him a respected figure in Indian cricket circles, admired for his ability to adapt and remain competitive even after years away from the national setup.
