Big changes for 2018 IPL; These two teams in for an overhaul

Discarded IPL teams, Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals are all set to come back in next edition of IPL. The Rajasthan Royals team has undergone a makeover. It has changed its name to “Royals” and shifted its base to Pune. According to reports the change in name and base to Pune has helped them enter into a sale deal with Sanjay Goenka, the owner of Rising Pune Supergiant team. The Royals” team deal is reported to be around 1000 crore.

“The dropping of word Rajasthan from the team”s name had already been approved by GC. The team”s name now is just Royals,” informed a GC member on Tuesday.

On the other hand, N Srinivasan is transferring CSK shares among the shareholders of India Cements. The value of the CSK franchise is reported to be only 50 lakh. This means BCCI will earn 50 crores from Royals” sale but only 5 lakh from CSK. “This issue related to CSK has been referred to our legal team. We will wait for their advice,” a GC insider replied to a query from DNA

Discarded IPL franchise Kochi Tuskers Kerala are looking forward to making a comeback in IPL. The co-owners of Kochi Tuskers Kerala declined BCCI”s offer to part with 850 crores as compensation for ending franchise”s contract in 2011. Shashank Manohar was the board President back then.”It was one man”s obstinacy that is now costing us a bomb. Had Shashank not taken that decision, we could have worked our way out.

“In fact, before Kochi went to arbitration, they had asked for a compensation of Rs 300 crore. Even then our officials showed arrogance and now BCCI may have to pay dearly for its mistake,” a GC member said after the meeting

“We”ve asked BCCI to pay part money (Rs 1,000 crore) along with reinstatement of our team,” said two out of four Kochi Tuskers” owner after the offer made by BCCI on Tuesday.

“We were treated so shabbily by BCCI for no fault of ours. Whereas CSK and RR are now welcomed back despite their wrongdoings. We want to play cricket and that”s all,” added the owners.

The eleventh edition of IPL is all set to commence on April 2, 2018 with the final to be played on May 29 . The official fixtures have not been announced yet. Rising Pune Supergiants and Gujarat Lions were dissolved at the end of IPL 2017 and hence IPL now has only 8 teams.
