Kane Williamson equals Kohli's record of most cenuturies in Test matches

The World number 1 test batter, Kane Williamson showed his brilliant skills with a stunning century that helped New Zealand to recover from a tough situation during the 2nd day of the 1st test match played at Sylhet International Ground, Sylhet on 29th November 2023.

Williamson came to the crease with New Zealand losing their first wicket of Tom Latham. Soon after, Conway also was dismissed as Shahadat Hossain took stunning at short leg. Williamson looked in steady touch against Taijul Islam and other Bangladesh bowlers. New Zealand went into the lunch break at 78 for 2.

After the lunch break, Willamson kept the scoreboard ticking with some shots. Shoriful Islam did the trick getting rid of Nicholls with a good catch by Nurul Hasan. Nicholls and Williamson added 54 runs for the 3rd wicket. Williamson looked in decent touch keeping the scoreboard ticking reaching fifty off 75 deliveries.

Mitchell and Williamson kept the momentum going for New Zealand taking singles and hitting boundaries with ease. Taijul Islam was bought into attack and got rid of Mitchell with stumping by Nurul Hasan. Mitchell and Williamson added 66 runs for the 4th wicket. Glenn Phillips came to the crease looking in decent touch with some lovely strokes along with Williamson. At the end of 2nd session, New Zealand made 168 for 4.

Tom Blundell could not contribute much as he was dismissed by Nayeem Hasan and caught by Nurul Hasan to leave the visitors in trouble at 175 for 5. Williamson and Phillips maintained the momentum going for New Zealand not allowing the bowlers to settle making life tough. Right before the second new ball, Mominal Haque did damage getting rid of Phillips with a sharp catch by Shanto. Phillips and Williamson added 78 runs for the 6th wicket.

Williamson equalled Virat Kohli with a century off 189 deliveries. Taijul Islam bowled a lovely delivery to disturb the timber of Williamson for 104. New Zealand ended with the second day at 266 for 8. His innings ensured that the Kiwis stayed closer to Bangladesh’s 310.

He survived a few anxious moments but kept calm against the Bangladesh bowlers, especially Taijul Islam, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, and Nayeem Islam.

Kane Williamson showed his class after returning from an injury. With this century, Williamson has now moved to 29 Test centuries in 95 matches (165 innings). During his Test career, he made it so far 8228 runs with a best score of 251.
