As MS Dhoni has stepped into the twilight of his career, India is yet to find a full-time solution to replace the cricketer. They have used Wriddhiman Saha in Tests while Rishabh Pant played in the limited-overs until the Australia series earlier this year when KL Rahul replaced him. Recently, former Australia cricketer Brad Hogg revealed who should be India’s full-time wicket-keeper.
Meanwhile, Dhoni has guarded the stumps for India for over a decade now. It is very difficult to fill in his shoes such was his legacy. He was one of the best to play the sport. While everyone tipped Rishabh Pant to be his successor, but the youngster has struggled to live up to the expectations.
Brad Hogg reveals MS Dhoni’s successor
KL Rahul sensed the opportunity and grabbed the limited-overs spot. On the other hand, Virat Kohli prefers Wriddhiman Saha in home Tests while he turns to Pant in overseas Tests. Recently, Brad Hogg revealed why and whom he would pick as India keeper in Tests and in the limited-overs format.
“Pant’s batting is more explosive than Saha. If you look at India’s top order, their top five do the bulk of the world. What you need from your no. 7 is someone to come out and take the game on, and get as much runs as quickly as possible. It moves the game forward and gives the bowlers more time to take 20 wickets, which you need in a Test match. So, for me, even if Pant misses a few stumpings that Saha would get, he puts the team in a much better position than Saha to win the Test match with his bat,” Hogg said in a video.
Meanwhile, talking about shorter formats, Brad Hogg picked KL Rahul as his keeper choice for India. The Karnataka batsman has done exceedingly well in the limited-overs since taking over the job.
“In white-ball formats, you would think with that aggressive in Pant, I would be going for him in ODIs and T20Is. I am not. Saha is not the man either, because he doesn’t have that strike rate, and he doesn’t find the boundaries as easier as Pant or Rahul. So, I am going to go with Rahul,” Hogg added.
In conclusion, Brad Hogg stated that Rishabh Pant needs to work hard on his talent to take up the role in the future.
