Mumbai Indians pacer Jasprit Bumrah registered his best figures in the IPL as he took 4 for 13 against Delhi Capitals In Qualifier 1 in Dubai. In the process, he got to 27 IPL wickets this season and is currently owning the Purple cap. He along with Trent Boult took six wickets to dismantle Delhi in the chase.

Meanwhile, this performance from Bumrah has made Brian Lara take notice of his unmatched excellence. The former Windies skipper lauded the MI pacer while saying that he would not have liked to face Bumrah in his prime.

Brian Lara Hails Jasprit Bumrah, Jofra Archer

Talking to Hindustan Times about various aspects of T20 cricket, Lara said that Jasprit Bumrah and Jofra Archer can be counted as legends in any era of cricket. This came in as a massive statement from Brian Lara, who at one point of time held the record for the highest score in Test cricket.

“I can only say this: Bumrah and Archer could stand up and be counted in any era of cricket. Whether they were playing in the 2000s, 90s, 80s or even the 70s, they would be up there. And I am not belittling anyone from the past. But these two would be in the echelons of fast bowling in any era I have watched, played in, or am still watching” said Lara to HT.

The Windies legend also spoke on Virat Kohli, who is already a legend in his own right. He celebrated his 32nd birthday on Thursday. His side RCB will take on SRH in the IPL 2020 Eliminator later today. Kohli is eyeing his maiden IPL title. He played two finals previously (2011, 2016) but failed to win both of them.

Brian Lara said that Kohli is a very different T20 batsman compared to a few of his counterparts. He said that the Indian skipper knows his strengths very well in this format and sticks to them.

“He is right. Viral Kohli plays, and is successful, across all formats. You look at some guys who are playing in IPL, they haven’t played the longer format and their game is based around T20. But Virat cannot afford to change his style. He has a style, and he has to enhance it. He just knows in some games he has to score quicker than in others” said Lara.
