Throughout the IPL 2020, former West Indian skipper Brian Lara was on the lookout for some of the young Indian batsmen to watch out for in the future. He has finally chosen six of them who h things will make it big for India in international cricket in the years to come. In a recent interview with Hindustan Times, the batting legend has spoken about what has impressed him about them the most, pointing out their strengths as well.

He started off by talking about SuryakumarYadav. Surya scored 400 plus runs for the third consecutive year with Mumbai Indians. Also, he has shouldered the responsibility beautifully at number three. Unfortunately, he was not included in the Indian squads for the Australia series, which has became a point of big debate at the moment.

“Suryakumar Yadav has become one of my favourites. If your best player is not an opener, he has to bat at No.3. He can repair the damage if Mumbai lose an early wicket and continue the onslaught if he has to. I have enjoyed watching him play in this IPL,” he said.

Brian Lara next spoke about Rajasthan Royals Sanju Samson who scored 375 runs in the season. He started beautifully but then lost his form midway through the tournament.

“I love Sanju’s ability, but I’m not sure I love the way he bats all the time. He has got tremendous ability, tremendous timing. He is an unbelievable player in terms of what his potential and range is, and the heights he can reach.”

Devdutt Padikkal was next in the radar for him. The young left-hander finished as the top-run-getter for his side. In what was another disappointing season for RCB, Padikkal was their big gain. He scored 473 runs in 15 games.

“Padikkal has a lot of potential. I would like to see him change a few things though. Ultimately when I judge a batsman, I don’t want to see him play only the IPL or T20s, I want to see him play Test cricket as well” said Lara on the young left-hander.

KL Rahul, Priyam Garg and Abdul Samad are the other three batsmen who managed to impress the Batting legend in this IPL.

“KL Rahul for sure. I’ve always said he’s so good, what more can I say about him. I think Priyam Garg has a lot of potential,” Lara concluded saying
