CAB Confirms Eden Gardens As Venue For KKR

The iconic Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata will remain the home ground for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) during the IPL 2025 season, putting an end to rumors about potential venue changes. Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) President Snehasish Ganguly recently addressed these concerns, asserting that no renovations will interfere with KKR’s schedule at Eden Gardens. By reaching out to both KKR’s CEO, Venky Mysore, and IPL Chairman, Arun Dhumal, Ganguly made the association’s stance clear.

CAB President’s Announcement on IPL Venue

CAB President Snehasish Ganguly was quick to respond to rumors suggesting a shift of KKR’s home matches from Eden Gardens. Emphatically dismissing the possibility, Ganguly assured fans that all KKR matches would be hosted at Eden Gardens, and there are no plans for renovations that would disrupt this arrangement.

“I had a telephonic conversation with Venky Mysore. He was also not sure about this news. I wrote a letter to him clarifying everything, where we stand, and we aren’t doing any renovation. I also gave a letter to Mr. Arun Dhumal regarding the situation,” he added.

Renovation Reality

Contrary to rumors, Ganguly confirmed that there are no ongoing or planned renovations at Eden Gardens. To solidify CAB’s position, Ganguly reached out to key figures, including KKR CEO Venky Mysore, who was reportedly unaware of the rumors. Ganguly also penned a letter to IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal, affirming that Eden Gardens would remain KKR’s venue for the 2025 season, reassuring fans and stakeholders alike.

“You can’t deny a 65,000 crowd. Even before last season during KKR’s bad days, every match was houseful. We don’t have any program for renovation. For any such work, it needs 2 years of time as the approval of the Amry is needed. Till now the lease hasn’t been renewed so we haven’t got any green signal from the Army to do any sort of outside renovation,” Snehasish Ganguly concluded.

Tripura Stadium’s Offer and CAB’s Response

Tripura’s new stadium project, which had shown interest in hosting IPL matches, was part of the rumors. However, Ganguly made it clear that while Tripura’s offer is appreciated, KKR’s commitment to Eden Gardens remains strong due to the unparalleled fan support and historical significance of the Kolkata venue.

“I saw a news report where the secretary of Tripura saying a new stadium is coming up and some of the KKR matches would be held there. I don’t think KKR will agree to that, because no one wants to leave Eden Gardens. Maybe one match is okay. This year we have the opening ceremony and the finals,” CAB President Snehasish Ganguly told RevSportz.

Eden Gardens is renowned for its passionate crowd, with KKR fans filling the stands game after game, even during challenging seasons. The stadium’s massive capacity of 65,000 spectators guarantees an electric atmosphere that inspires players and overwhelms visiting teams.

With the CAB confirming Eden Gardens as KKR’s home for IPL 2025, the venue is set to host the season’s opening ceremony and final match, adding to its grandeur. This announcement reassures fans that they will experience a full season of KKR matches at Eden Gardens, amplifying the excitement around the IPL.
