Cameron Bancroft”s gritty knock in the final wamp-up game earned him a place in the Australian squad for the forthcoming Ashes series. Talking about runs, wicket-keeper batsman Matthew Wade amassed plenty of them in the domestic circuit and he has finally been rewarded a place in the 17-man squad for the Ashes.
Australia pick a 6-man pace attack
Paceman Peter Siddle will be joined by Michale Neser as Australia look to create history on English soil. James Pattinson fills up the pace pack that consists of six faces. Also, Steve Smith and David Warner will be seen in action for the first time in whites since the infamous Cape Town “sandpaper” incident. Both Smith and Warner have scored runs in the domestic T20 competitions and in franchise cricket.
Warner, Smith back in whites
“They”re welcomed back with open arms, there”s no doubt about it,” the selection chairman Trevor Hohns mentioned in Southampton. “Steve Smith and Dave Warner, they”re very good cricketers, world-class players. It was naturally we would include them now they”re available again. And Cameron Bancroft has had quite a good summer here playing county cricket plus he played very well here in the recent game. You may recall going back to South Africa before the action was taken against him.”
Tim Paine will lead the side in the fierce rivalry starting on August 1st. Edgbaston will host the first Test match and it will be followed by Lord”s and Headingley. Old Trafford and the Oval will play host to the final two games of the series.
